Guaranteed Quality
OSB is perfect for modern methods of construction. It’s a construction panel that is engineered to exacting requirements that enables it to perform in a wide range of structural applications.
Every British Isles and Irish panel carries superb credentials to prove its suitability so you can sleep easy.
Below is more about the organisations that monitor the building trade, who have given OSB their stamp of approval.
British Board of Agrément
The BBA are the people the UK Government have chosen to issue European Technical Approvals. Their stamp gives you impartial, third-party guarantees about OSB’s performance under modern construction conditions.
As well as meeting EN 300 (Specification for Oriented Strand Boards) and being certified by the British Board of Agrément (BBA), OSB is also approved by the Irish Agrément Board (IAB) and other European certifying bodies. In short, OSB is good for use in many residential and commercial construction applications including: floor and roof decking, roof sarking, industrial racking, timber frame wall sheathing and prefabricated and modular home applications. In conjunction with other materials OSB provides the strength for manufactured elements such as I joists and Structural Insulated Panels (SIP) not to mention numerous other applications such as pallets and packaging, temporary buildings, hoardings, caravan interiors, furniture components and decorative linings.
Construction Products Directive
By law, construction products must comply with with the 6 essential requirements of the Construction Products Directive (CPD). The CPD is a piece of European legislation that has been transposed into national law in every member state of the EU. OSB achieves compliance with the CPD by meeting the requirements of the Harmonised Standard for wood-based panels (EN 13986).
The CE mark
Compliance with the CPD is denoted by the CE (Conformité Européan) mark.
Importantly, products bearing the CE mark should also be supported by data to confirm compliance with the CPD. These products are free to move between member states of the European Community. OSB producers can provide a certificate of conformity and all supporting performance data.
There have been instances of the fraudulent application of the CE mark from countries outside of the EC so always ask for evidence of the supporting information applicable to the product and its CPD credentials.
All load bearing wood based panels intended for structural use must be marked ‘CE 2+ structural’, a feature which should be independently verified. OSB3 is, but watch out though because the same cannot be said for all plywood used in load bearing structural applications.
